Taiwan Considers Lifting Ban On Canadian Beef
30 January 2007TAIWAN - Taiwan, after having inspected quarantine and packaging procedures in Canada, will make a decision to lift a ban on importing Canadian beef soon, the Central News Agency reported on Monday.
Hou Sheng-mou, director of the Department of Health (DOH), led five experts to inspect Canada's cattle registration, slaughter houses and meat packaging houses.The DOH is expected to make a decision on Canadian beef imports toward the end of February.
Taiwan used to be the fifth-largest export market for Canadian beef with annual imports worth 20 million Canadian dollars (17.78 million US dollars).
