Swift closed in August of 2005, citing market conditions and a shortage of cattle for processing. They are concerns the new owners have plans in place to address.

"When you're a smaller company and pay a little more attention to running that size of plant, you can make them work for you," said Brian Nilsson, Co-Chief Executive of XL Four Star Beef, Inc.

The plant, which will reopen on Feb. 5, has also added scrubbers and other machinery to minimize odors.
