The Symposium is delivered by the four major groups conducting beef cattle production research in the province: Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Western Beef Development Centre, the University of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food. It is supported by funding from Canada's Agricultural Producers Addressing Environmental Issues (CAPAEI).

The Symposium provides beef producers and industry representatives with insight on major developments in the industry, tying those to information on new solutions and knowledge from research. In addition to presentations by leading scientists, it features speakers who will provide various industry perspectives on important developments and questions of the day.

"The Symposium is a unique opportunity for Saskatchewan beef producers to get all the latest applied beef research information in one place, and to gain insight on issues that are central or critical to the industry," says Dr. John McKinnon of the University of Saskatchewan. "The program also includes a strong environmental component. The major sessions include discussions to assist producers in their role as responsible stewards of agricultural lands as cattle production continues to evolve with new knowledge and options."

A key focus at the Symposium is emerging trends and initiatives, notes Dr. Bart Lardner of Western Beef Development Centre. "Bioenergy is front and centre, as is traceback and growth of both the cow/calf sector and feedlot sector. Along with research talks, the program includes a number of producer speakers discussing their personal experiences in these areas."
