Bob Libra of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources told a state environment panel yesterday that because of budget cuts, the agency has no idea whether the state will have enough water to handle the demand.

According to the Minnesota-based Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, it takes three-to-four gallons of water to make one gallon of ethanol. And, one hog in a hog confinement operation needs five gallons of water a-day. Beef and dairy cattle need 20-plus gallons a day.
