Area packer wants to voluntarily test for mad cow

Creekstone Farms Premium Beef, an Arkansas City beef processor, is attempting to regain export markets lost to mad cow disease by voluntarily testing all of the animals it slaughters for the disease.
The move makes Creekstone Farms the first U.S. packer to offer to conduct voluntary testing and runs counter to the stance of the "Big Four" packers -- Tyson, Excel, Swift and National -- which have resisted 100 percent testing, primarily because of time and costs.
