IFA meet DG Sanco on BSE testing costs
IRELAND - IFA National Livestock Chairman John Bryan, together with a delegation from the IFA Livestock Committee, met with senior officials from DG Sanco in Brussels today seeking an increase in the restrictive 30-month age limit on BSE testing.Mr Bryan said the IFA have argued that the BSE testing age limit should be moved up to 40 months of age. “This will involve substantial savings for Irish livestock farmers,” he added.
John Bryan also pointed out there has been no case of BSE in any animal under 40 months of age in Ireland. Mr Bryan said “livestock farmers are being unnecessarily penalised to the extent of €20 per head on prime cattle by the restrictive 30-month age limit.”
