Welshpool Charolais hits top at 4,100gns
UK - Pedigree Charolais bulls topped at 4,100gns in Welshpool on Thursday at the breed society’s official autumn show and sale.Consigned by Billy Turner, Skelton-on-Ure, Ripon, North Yorkshire, the Brampton Ronaldo-sired bull had been placed second in his class during the show.
Welshpool newcomers, Peter and Nicola Darlington, Crewe, offered two lots at 3,800gns. First to go was the Baggott-bred, Coley Acorn, a 21-month-old Coley Tiger son going back to Balthayock Marius and out of a Coley dam by Balthayock Nougat. Acorn was knocked down to N. and G.M. Bennett, Manfon, Welshpool.
The Darlington’s first ever home-bred bull through the ring, Springfarm Awinston, attracted the second 3,800gns bid, this time from P.L. Watkins, Hay-on-Wye, Hereford.
A 21-month old blue ticket winner, he was sired by Maerdy Pinion and out of a Givendale cow by Bassingbourn Hilton. A bid of 3,600gns from W.G. Roberts, Conwy, secured the August 2004-born Lacreuse Vavavoom from Carolyn Morris, Llanstephen, Carmarthen.
Sired by Seawell Offshore and out of a Killadeas Jack-sired home-bred dam, Vavavoom has a beef value of CH39.
