Once again the meat industry has been hit by a report that links eating red meat with cancer.

This time the report comes from the Harvard Medical School and it is linking red meat consumption with breast cancer.

But once again it appears to be the selective and often exaggerated media coverage that has blown the report up and started a potential scare.

The report relates the increased risk to eating more than one and a half portions of meat a day.

But the media reports do not specify what size those servings should or could be.

The coverage of the report, which has received international coverage, also related the fact that there could be a link between some of the hormones used in rearing beef cattle and the cancer.

However, in many parts of the world hormones are not used to rear beef cattle and at present in Europe they are actually banned.

All this will help to do is to drive a deeper rift between the U.S. and Europe in their dispute at present being discussed by the World Trade Organization Disputes Panel.
