New Type Of Beef Makes Way To San Diego Stores
US - A brand new, less-fattening beef that many farmers have said is safer and healthier is now on the shelf at San Diego stores.Remember that old saying, “Where’s the beef?” The real question now is where is the beef from?
This month, all Henry’s Marketplace stores in San Diego County began stocking the latest cow craze. The stores are now selling beef raised entirely on grass in open pastures, like those found in San Juan Batista in Northern California.
Farmer Joe Morris said the cows are hormone and antibiotic-free and turn into healthier steaks than corn or grain-fed cows raised in close-knit pens.
"A 6 ounce stead has 100 calories more than a grain-fed, because it has a lower fat content, plus it has four times more vitamin A, three times more vitamin E, and it’s twice as high in your omega three essential fatty acids," said nutritionist Janet Little.
Grass-fed beef is all the rage in San Francisco, where the finest restaurants in town serve it. The same is true of Chicago and in San Diego it's just starting to catch on.
