In recent years, Paraguay has been exporting a greater proportion of total beef produced due to strong world demand, high export prices, good sanitary status (FMD-free with vaccination) and growing domestic beef production.

According to the Brazilian Meat Monitor, the very high exports have caused Paraguayan companies to import beef from Argentina to supply the domestic market. For the remainder of 2006, beef production is expected to grow - exports are expected to rise to 65% of production in 2006 (260,000 cwt) and increase further to 68% of production in 2007.
