Four Winds Angus scores again at Minnesota Beef Expo
MINNESOTA, US - This wasn't the first year Four Winds Angus had the highest-selling Black Angus heifer at Minnesota Beef Expo. The heifer's maternal sister, 4WA Duchess 516, was the grand champion in her class at the Expo last year and sold for $7,750 at the sale -- the highest of any heifer at 2005's sale. She also was chosen as Supreme Champion Sale Female.
"There were two people who wanted her bad," said Dwight Ward, who owns Four Winds Angus of Kasson and Northwood, Iowa, with his sons Jack and Paul.
"Beef Expo is nice," Jack said of selling heifers. "It lets buyers decide how much they're worth."
Jack said he hadn't thought about the amount of the bids for Duchess 620.
"It was the best heifer in our calf crop this year.''
The family has taken cattle to the Expo since it started in 2000.
