NFU influences changes to State Aids proposals

UK - As a result of intense lobbying from the NFU and other organisations the European Commission has made significant changes to its proposals on revising the rules on State Aids.

Some of the most dangerous elements of the early drafts such as only allowing animal disease compensation to be paid to farmers if they have lost more than 30% of their production and the proposal that the maximum amount of aid paid should not exceed 75% of the market value of animals have been removed from the latest draft of the proposals.

The NFU has put a lot of effort in to getting these proposals changed and we have had considerable support from Defra.

The latest draft of the proposals will be discussed in Brussels next week.
