Australian farmers welcome $A350m drought package
AUSTRALIA - Australian farmers say a $A350 million drought relief package announced by the Prime Minister on Monday will be welcome relief for producers who are facing the worst drought on record.Farmers say they are looking forward to more assistance being announced.
The ABC reports the $A350 million will be spent over the next 18 months.
National Farmers Federation president David Crombie says the drought is "a national issue".
Mr Crombie said the announcement will give greater certainty to farmers whose assistance was due to run out in six months. He said they would like to see more flexibility in drought support and funding to help with land management.
