No tough action on Brazilian standards
UK - Hopes that the European Commission would take tough action against standards in the Brazilian meat industry have been dashed.Food Safety Commissioner, Markos Kyprianou, was in Brazil this week to look at the beef and poultry industries.
But before he left Brussels, he confirmed he would not be taking any action over problems highlighted by officials from the Commission’s Food and Veterinary Office.
In recent months, farm lobby organisations have highlighted the issues raised by the FVO inspectors since 2003.
The Commission has issued a number of warnings and threatened action.
