FMD Outbreaks in Tunisian Farms Affect Cattle

TUNISIA - The Tunisian veterinary authorities have reported seven outbreaks of foot and mouth disease at farms in Sfax, Jendouba, Kairouan, Mannouba and Medenine.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 8 on Monday, 21 July. According to the report, the affected population consists of cattle and sheep.

According to the report, a total of 158 cattle were found susceptible, out of which 37 cases were reported.

Illegal movement of animals has been identified as the main cause of the outbreaks.

Some of the control measures applied include quarantine, movement control inside the country, vaccination in response to the outbreak(s) and disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s). None of the affected animals have received treatment.
