IFA: Shareholders Must be Assured of Sustainability of Glanbia Ireland Model

IRELAND - IFA National Dairy Committee Chairman Sean O’Leary has said that a meeting of Dairy and County Chairmen in the Glanbia catchment area organised by IFA last week confirmed that, in general, Glanbia farmers are favourable towards the proposals, but they still need reassurance on a number of points.

Mr O’Leary said IFA had written to Glanbia to urge them to assure farmers at the forthcoming information meetings, starting this week, of the sustainability of the Glanbia Ireland model in the face of global uncertainty.

“Dairy farmers all around the country are understandably spooked by the possible impact of Brexit and other international uncertainties on their farm businesses,” Mr O’Leary said.

“Glanbia shareholders have been invited by Glanbia to attend local information meetings from this week, and I would encourage them to make it their business to attend them in order to better understand the complex proposals they will be asked to vote on on 18 May, and to satisfy themselves that they give them the best sustainability guarantees in the face of international volatility,” Mr O’Leary concluded.
