Latest Foot and Mouth Reports: Two Cases in Israeli Cattle

ISRAEL - Israel has reported two cases of Foot and Mouth Disease in a 65-strong herd of free-ranging beef cattle.

The outbreak was of serotype O, and occurred in the Hazafon region in the north of the country.

The herd of beef cattle in Zuriel is located 5 kilometers from the recent outbreak on a pig farm.

The herd contains 43 dams, two bulls and 20 calves and heifers. Lesions in the mouth have been seen in one dam only. Limping has been observed in one of the bulls.

Over two thousand pigs have been vaccinated in the Hazafon region, in response to the recent outbreaks.

Disinfection, quarantine, and surveillance measures have been used to contain the outbreaks.
