First production occurred at the Fallon unit in April 2014 after construction commenced two years earlier.

The plant processes 1.5 million pounds of raw milk daily for cooperative Dairy Farmers of America to very high standards, according to chief operating officer Glenn Wallace.

“Regardless of the formulation or the customer, we are focused on product safety, traceability and supply chain integrity,” said Mr Wallace.

“These are important elements to ensure top quality product and customer confidence.”

Vice President of strategy and global development Jay Waldvogel said the build comes from a rise in demand as people understand nutrition better.

He added: “People know that proper nutrition, including dairy, results in a better life.”
