According to an immediate notification sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the disease is affecting cattle of all ages and both sexes. The animals are showing mouth and feet lesions.

The OIE reports that the outbreak occurred in an area close to a game safari where significant population of African buffalos and antelopes are prevailing.

Information from residents indicated that in early July a population of African buffalos broke the game fence and came into contact with cattle in the affected areas.

According to the residents, the animals stayed for approximately two weeks in the livestock grazing areas and water points.

A total of 5600 animals showed signs of susceptibility, out of which 150 cases were reported. No deaths have been recorded, and no animals have been destroyed and/or slaughtered.

Contact with wild species has been reported as the main cause of the outbreak.

Various control measures have been put in place in order to prevent further spread of the disease.
