Further Foot and Mouth Cases in Eastern Russia

RUSSIA – More cases of foot and mouth disease have been reported on cattle and pigs in the far eastern Primorskiy Kray region.

The outbreak has mainly been in swine, hitting three pigs farms, the largest being a 3140 head herd in Zelenodolskoye.

In total, over 3,500 pigs and eight cattle have been listed as susceptible with 2,765 swine cases. No cases have been reported in cattle to date.

The reports add to a spate of outbreaks confirmed towards the end of May. The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) notified the first outbreak, dated May 17, on May 28.

The number of infected farms now stands at five.
