A round of cattle and pig slaughter house inspections conducted in the first quarter of the year concluded with five companies having at least one facility being given the green light.

They are: Refrigerator Astra, Paraná; VPR Brazil, Paraná; Valley Grande, Mato Grosso; JBS, Goiás and Seara Alimentos, Santa Catarina .

"The release of these plants shows international confidence in the Brazilian health service,” said agriculture minister Neri Geller. “Hopefully this year other fridges can also be released for export to other markets.”

The number of properties able to export to Russia, as of last Friday, now stands at 62. Of these, 57 are classed as ‘restricted and enhanced laboratory monitoring’.

Beef exports come from 24 companies, four of which are laboratory monitored.

A total of nine pork plants ship to Russia. Eight of these are classed as ‘restricted and enhanced laboratory monitoring’.

Poultry can be shipped from twelve plants without any restriction which also process horsemeat and pet food.
