Production to Resume at VION Bad Bramstedt
GERMANY - Four weeks on from ordering a shutdown at VION Bad Bramstedt GmbH, the Ministry of Energy, Agriculture, the Environment and Rural Areas (MELUR) in Schleswig-Holstein has lifted its temporary ban on production at the beef slaughter and processing plant.

The company has submitted comprehensive guarantees for irreproachable production with due regard to all regulations relating to hygiene and animal welfare.
VION also gave its assurances that the plant would be extensively modernised.
VION Bad Bramstedt will be investing more than €1.5 million in its production plant this year.
The new technical facilities are state of the art and the stunning box that will be installed in a couple of weeks has been designed in accordance with the most recent considerations relating to animal welfare.
Up until then, the company will be ensuring that the speeds at which slaughtering takes place are reduced and that each stunning process is recorded through video monitoring.
In addition, two high-level, independent experts will continue to guarantee that slaughtering and processing is carried out safely and in accordance with animal welfare standards at the Bad Bramstedt production site.
The company said that the experts will be members of the company management team and will have the authorisation to issue directives.
The lifting of the ban means that the largest beef slaughter plant in the state of Schleswig-Holstein will now be able to resume the important role it plays in agriculture and in supplying the meat and food sector.
“Not unimportantly, the permission to resume production secures more than 300 jobs in Bad Bramstedt,” VION said in a statement.
“The management for VION Bad Bramstedt GmbH expresses particular thanks for the strong support received from the agricultural sector, customers, staff, the union, the public and politicians.
“Over the last few weeks, this solidarity and the faith people have in the irreproachable work of the company gave all of the staff the strength to fight for the resumption of production at the site.”
VION Bad Bramstedt GmbH has assured the ministry's inspectorate and the Segeberg district of total transparency and of its continued willingness to cooperate while recent events are reviewed.
VION said that it is in the company management's best interests to hold a constructive dialogue with all responsible parties in order to create in the state of Schleswig-Holstein one of the most modern beef processing plants in Germany.
