The programme is running across the provinces of Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Santa Fe and in conjunction with a Brucellosis programme in Entre Rios, La Pampa and San Luis.

The National Service for Food and Animal Health has reminded stockmen that in Cordoba, La Pampa and San Luis, vaccination does not apply to breeding stock or older cows and bulls.

Breeding stock were dosed during the last round of vaccinations.

On Friday, the Argentine government stated it was officially recognised as being FMD free with vaccination in a region north of the Colorado river and disease free in North and South Patagonia.

However, health officials are striving to further limit the disease in other areas as part of the framework of the National Plan for Foot and Mouth Eradication.

The Plan is accompanied with other multi-lateral initiatives involving other South American countries under the Mercosur deal, which saw one FMD technical mission conclude on 11 October.

The Committee of the Southern Cone observed surveillance operations across Veterinary services in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.

Mainly concerned with the spread of fevers, a delegation of technical  veterinarians from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay discussed the identification of risk and outbreak response strategy.
