Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolai Fyodorov and Minister for Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysiazhnyuk boosted trade of confectionary and sugar when they agreed to an export plan on Tuesday.

The decision to open exports will mean a bi-lateral compliance of cereals, vegetables and livestock food health and safety in which veterinary and phytosanitary measures are maintained.

Ukraine Minister, Mykola Prysiazhnyuk said that both sides are looking at exporting more products in a move that is important to both nations.

He said: “Ukraine and Russia will continue to work in the agricultural sector as part of previous agreements. In particular, we discussed cooperation in grain, veterinary and phytosanitary security in food trade.

“We explored the duties on imports on Ukrainian caramel and sugar and agreed that cooperation on standards of animal husbandry, seed production, education and science is necessary.”

A total of $1.2 billion worth of produce has been exported to Russia from Ukraine in the first eight months of 2013.

To ensure relations are maintained, the priority areas in the agreement have been submitted to the Committee on Economic cooperation.
