Record Exports for Brazilian Beef
BRAZIL - Brazilian beef exports up to the second week of December reached $5.53 billion, ahead of the record levels of 2008, when exports hit $5.4 billion. It is expected that by the end of 2012 Brazilian beef exports will reach $5.8 billion.
The Brazilian beef export agency ABIEC said that the results could have been even better if it had not been for the macroeconomic recession that caused a slight decrease in the average price of exported beef.
The volume growth reversed the downward trend of the past three years which between 2009 and 2011, despite an increase in revenues, had decreased by country.
In 2012, Brazil was able to increase the volume of exports from January to November by 12.25 per cent, compared to the same period last year.
Abiec added that Brazil will regain its position as the largest exporter of beef in 2012. Last year, the US beat Brazil in exports largely caused by the drought in producer states.
