UK Cattle Slaughtering Falls, Pigs Up
UK - UK prime cattle slaughterings have dropped year on year, down by 3.5 per cent on October 2011 according to the latest figures from Defra.The October 2012 figures show that cattle slaughterings were 198,000 head. Beef and veal production was 92,000 tonnes, 1.7 per cent lower than in October 2011.
UK clean sheep slaughterings were seven per cent lower than in October 2011 at 1,447,000 head. Mutton and lamb production was 33,000 tonnes, seven per cent lower than in October 2011.
UK clean pig slaughterings were one per cent higher than in October 2011 at 1,004,000 head. Pig meat production was 81,000 tonnes, 0.8 per cent lower than in October 2011.
