The Ministry of Agriculture and the Southeastern Livesotkc Unit of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation have agreed to calculate the water footprint of milk production.

To calculate the footprint of water in dairy production, they will create models and look at the use of green (rain), blue (surface and underground) and grey (required volume to dilute the effluent of livestock activity) water in production systems for conventional and organic milk.

From this best practice methods to reduce water will be drawn up. The management tool will then be used to promote efficiency in water use in pursuit of sustainable agriculture.
