AUSTRALIA - National cattle throughput edged higher, with supply lifting eight per cent in the physical markets, reported Meat and Livestock Australia's (MLA) NLRS.

Cattle supply lifts
A positive supply trend was consistently recorded across the states, yet national numbers are 14 per cent lower year-on-year.
Queensland once again penned the most numbers, as supply rose by 21 per cent with all regions contributing more supply.
Overall New South Wales (NSW) throughput was stable, while numbers were three per cent higher across Victoria.
South Australia (SA) supply was largely unchanged again, while consignments were 48 per cent higher in WA after more pastoral cattle were yarded at Muchea.
The condition of young cattle has improved with a higher proportion of yardings either supplementary fed or straight off winter oat crops. However, plenty of store drafts remain in the market as is usually the case during the cooler months. Cows and grown steers are of good quality, with plenty of medium and heavy weight cows now coming forward.
Cattle prices mixed
After Tuesday's markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) was six cents lower for the week, on 372.75 cents.kg cwt.
The trade steer indicator was five cents dearer on 215 cents, while feeder steer prices averaged eight cents cheaper on 194 cents/kg lwt.
Heavy steer prices were unchanged on 176 cents and medium cow finished two cents higher on 138 cents/kg lwt.
