NZ Dairy Leader Keynote Speaker For NI Conference
NORTHERN IRELAND, UK - New Zealand dairy leader Sir Henry van der Heyden, has been unveiled as the key note speaker for a major dairy conference to be held in Northern Ireland in July.

The conference, organised for dairy farmers by dairy farmers, is being co-ordinated by the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) working with local producers. The event will see a host of influential dairy sector figures voice their opinions and analysis on the way forward for dairy farming in Northern Ireland.
The Conference – ‘The Dairy Industry: Challenges Local and Global’ - supported by the Ulster Bank and several other key sponsors including Town of Monaghan and Glanbia, will be hosted in the Armagh City Hotel on Friday 8 July 2011.
UFU Deputy President Ian Marshall, a dairy farmer from Markethill, County Armagh said; “This event is being driven by producers and we are bringing together a top class panel of experts to consider the way forward for the industry. This is a unique opportunity for dairy farmers to debate the future of the sector with industry leaders and I would encourage every milk producer in Northern Ireland to attend the conference. The presentations and debate will examine the challenges facing the Northern Ireland dairy industry, particularly with the abolition of quota in 2015, and look at how we could turn these challenges into opportunities for our sector”.
Fermanagh milk producer and organising committee member Maurice Hurst added; “Dairy farmers in Northern Ireland are part of a global industry and what is happening in other parts of the world is having a big impact on our current and future prospects. For this reason we are delighted to welcome Sir Henry van der Heyden to Northern Ireland. As Chairman of Fonterra, he is one of the most influential figures in world dairying and his views on the future of the industry will be significant for every milk producer in Northern Ireland.”
Other confirmed speakers for the conference, which is open to all dairy farmers and milk industry stakeholders are: First Milk Chairman Bill Mustoe; Glanbia Group Managing Director John Moloney; Town of Monaghan Chief Executive Vincent Gilhawley; and Broadcaster Richard Wright. The conference will be chaired by Ulster Farmers’ Union Chief Executive Clarke Black.
