Israel Reports FMD Outbreak in Cattle

ISRAEL - The Israeli veterinary authorities have reported two outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Hazafon.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Thursday, 28 April. The affected population consists of 9-12 month old fattening calves (the lesions were severe ulcers in gums and tongue, salivation and limping) and beef cattle (six cows with salivation and limping).

A total of 770 animals were found susceptible to the disease, out of which 41 cases were reported. No deaths were recorded, and no animals were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined.
