Rift Valley Fever Threatens Botswana

02 September 2010

BOTSWANA - Back in June, there was an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever in Botswana's goat, sheep and cattle populations.

Whilst no new outbreaks have been reported, samples from 50 cattle were taken for clinical investigation. A further 218 random samples from cattle for active surveillance were also taken, however results are still pending.

Up to date a total of 13,669 cattle have been vaccinated, using an inactivated RVF vaccine.
