US Cattle on Feed Down Three Per Cent
US - The most recent Cattle On Feed Report, released 19 February 2010, by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, US Department of Agriculture suggests that cattle numbers are falling.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.0 million head on February 1, 2010. The inventory was three per cent below February 1, 2009.
Placements in feedlots during January totaled 1.83 million, two per cent below 2009. Net placements were 1.76 million head. During January, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 400,000, 600-699 pounds were 445,000, 700-799 pounds were 560,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 420,000.
Marketings of fed cattle during January totaled 1.77 million, two per cent above 2009. This is the third lowest fed cattle marketings for the month of January since the series began in 1996.
Other disappearance totaled 70,000 during January, four per cent above 2009.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head represented 80.7 percent of all cattle and calves on feed in the United States on January 1, 2010, down from 81.1 on January 1, 2009.
Marketings of fed cattle for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head during 2009 represented 84.7 per cent of all cattle marketed from feedlots in the United States, unchanged from 2008.
